What are some of the treatments for PTSD
1. Cognitive Processing Therapy
2. Prolonged Exposure Therapy
3. Self-Help and Coaching
4. Medication- I will talk about this below
5. Where to get help
I want to talk about this issue because it really bothers me. I know that my husband is on an awful lot of medication, 24 to be exact, and I have wanted him to get off some of them because I have read things about veterans dying of an overdose of medications that were prescribed.
Last fall my husband was in the Veteran's Affairs Hospital (VA) in Tomah, Wisconsin in order to get help for his PTSD. While he was there another veteran died from an overdose of prescribed medication. After doing some research, I found out that there have been multiple deaths of veterans at the Tomah VA. What is going on with our VA hospitals?
If you remember, almost a year ago now, at least 40 veterans died just waiting for appointments. How can we fix this?
VA now cutting down medication
Just recently, after all these deaths showing up in the news, the VA is cutting back on medications. My husband's doctor wants to wean him off of his medication also. I think this is a good thing.
